Need for Lacrimal Bypass Surgery After Medial Canthal Tumor Resection: Survey of Current Practices
نویسندگان
چکیده
Objective: To evaluate the changes in the number of Langerhans Cells (LC) observed in the epithelium of smokeless tobacco (SLT-induced) lesions. Methods: Microscopic sections from biopsies carried out in the buccal mucosa of twenty patients, who were chronic users of smokeless tobacco (SLT), were utilized. For the control group, twenty non-SLT users of SLT with normal mucosa were selected. The sections were studied with routine coloring and were immunostained for S-100, CD1a, Ki-67 and p63. These data were statistically analyzed by the Student’s t-test to investigate the differences in the expression of immune markers in normal mucosa and in SLT-induced leukoplakia lesions. Results: There was a significant difference in the immunolabeling of all markers between normal mucosa and SLT-induced lesions (p<0.001). The leukoplakia lesions in chronic SLT users demonstrated a significant increase in the number of Langerhans cells and in the absence of epithelial dysplasia. Conclusion: The increase in the number of these cells represents the initial stage of leukoplakia.

Management of Dermoid Tumor in the Medial Canthal Area
Dermoid tumors in the medial canthal area are rare, but when present they commonly adhere to the lacrimal canaliculi. Three patients presented with a mass in the medial canthal area. The authors performed excisional biopsies, and the masses were diagnosed as dermoid tumors. In two patients, canalicular lacerations were found after mass excision, which suggested that the masses had been firmly a...
متن کاملMedial Canthoplasty Combined with Conjunctivodacryocystorhinostomy for the Treatment of Delayed Medial Telecanthal Deformity
BACKGROUND Rupture of the medial canthal ligament can be caused by many events. It remains a challenge to rebuild the drainage system and restore the function. The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical efficacy of medial canthoplasty combined with conjunctivodacryocystorhinostomy (CDCR) in patients with medial telecanthal deformities and lacrimal drainage system damage. METHODS Twent...

INTRODUCTION The medial and lateral canthal ligaments represent fibrous condensations of tissue anchoring the tarsal plates to the medial and lateral orbital rims. The medial canthal ligament extends anteriorly to the anterior lacrimal crest, posteriorly to the posterior lacrimal crest, and superiorly along the frontal process of the maxilla and the frontal bone. The medial canthal ligament’s m...
متن کاملA useful flap combination in wide and complex defect reconstruction of the medial canthal region: Glabellar rotation and nasolabial V-Y advancement flaps.
BACKGROUND Reconstruction of medial canthal defects after tumour excision is difficult owing to the thin skin of the region and the concavity of the anatomical landmarks, which enclose complex structures such as the medial canthal ligament and the lacrimal system. Local reconstruction methods for this region include secondary healing, full-thickness skin grafts, and skin flaps from the frontal,...

M edial canthal defects resulting from cancer resection after Mohs micrographic surgery present challenging reconstruction dilemmas. In fact, medial canthal reconstruction has been controversial because of the time-honored method of second-intention healing in wound management of this area. Yet, small flaps and grafts for repair of cutaneous medial canthal defects may result in a quicker healin...
